Shanghai Disneyland Awaits Approval from Government

Story

In The Press

Disney Group Chairman George Mitchell has confirmed that successful talks are in progress for a new Disneyland in Shanghai. All that they need is Chinese Government approval, says CRI.

Mitchell made the announcement while in Beijing this week. Up until this point, negotiations have been with Shaghai City officials. The decision will now be left up to Chinese Government officials.

Ever since the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland, there has been speculation surrounding the opening of a second Chinese park. While some may feel that this is too much of an over-extension for the Disney Theme Parks, with a population of over 1.3 billion people (or over one fifth of the world's total population), there is certainly a potential market there.

As part of our coverage of Hong Kong Disneyland, we will continue to keep you updated on Shanghai Disneyland developments as well.
