HKDL Managing Director Andrew Lam and Mickey Mouse went on down to historic Lam Tseun to wish some underprivileged families a Happy New Year of the Ox!
NB: This press release comes at you from the good folks at Disney.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Managing Director Andrew Kam today joined a traditionally-dressed Mickey Mouse and Disney friends in a visit to the historic village of Lam Tsuen in Tai Po. They were joined by a group of children from underprivileged families in Tung Chung and brought new year blessings from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to the people of Lam Tsuen at Chinese New Year.
Lam Tsuen is famous for its traditional Wishing Tree into which visitors throw paper cards written with their hopes and dreams for the new year. Learning more about the history of the Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree, Kam and the children were joined by Lau Wong Fat, the newly-appointed Executive Council Member; Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Secretary for Development and Cheung Hok Ming, Legislative Councilor for New Territories West. The guests took a moment to write their new year wishes before throwing them onto the new model wishing tree. Afterwards, they beat a huge Chinese drum and prayed for good fortune and blessings in the new year.
“I am delighted to represent the Cast Members at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and come along with Mickey Mouse and Disney friends to convey our blessings to Lam Tsuen. It’s wonderful to celebrate Chinese New Year with our friends,” said Kam. “Lam Tsuen has a long history and is one of the most famous tourist spots in Hong Kong. I hope these children and their families will have learnt more about our cultural heritage after our visit today.”
The group went on to enjoy delicious Pun Choi, a traditional banquet which promises a joyous and meaningful Chinese New Year.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is showcasing the brand new “Mickey Celebrates the Year of the Ox” from January 16 to February 8, 2009, which includes traditional Chinese attractions such as “Celebration in the Street” and “Lucky Trail”.
