(July 9, 2008 – Hong Kong) Hong Kong Disneyland today welcomed more than 20 students and teachers from the Chifeng town of Pengzhou in Sichuan, an area severely damaged by the earthquake on May 12. The group enjoyed a magical experience at Hong Kong Disneyland visiting many attractions including “it’s a small world”, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, The Golden Mickeys at Disney’s Storybook Theater and Stitch Encounter.
After arriving in Hong Kong last night, the students stayed at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel before embarking on their visit to Park today. Jasmine Law, Hong Kong Disneyland Ambassador, and Disneyland tour hosts welcomed the students and teachers who were delighted when Mickey Mouse turned up to greet them.
BC Lo, Vice President of Public Affairs, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, said, “Hong Kong Disneyland has been committed to its community relations activities in the region since opening. And we are delighted to extend our efforts further afield by organizing this fun trip along with China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited for the students and teachers from one of the areas most severely affected by May’s earthquake in the Sichuan region. Judging from their reactions, we think they all had a truly magical Disney experience.”
14-year-old Dong Ting, one of the Sichuan students, said she was delighted to visit Hong Kong for the first time. On the first day of her Hong Kong visit, she particularly enjoyed meeting Mickey Mouse at Hong Kong Disneyland. “I am so thrilled to see Mickey Mouse in person and not on TV. I think Hong Kong people are really passionate and I am grateful for their care and concern.”
Hong Kong Disneyland Cast Members demonstrated their compassionate spirit by making a substantial donation to support relief work for victims of the Sichuan earthquake. On behalf of Hong Kong Disneyland, The Walt Disney Company matched Cast Members’ donations and to date, more than HK$1,174,000 has been donated to the Hong Kong Red Cross in the name of Hong Kong Disneyland, its Cast Members and Imagineers.
