It is something that has been rumoured for years, but the Chinese media is reporting that plans for a Shanghai Disneyland are now locked in for a post-Beijing Olypmic Games announcement. Will we see a new park in 2012, and how will this impact on our little HKDL?
Several media sources, including the Wen Wei Po and the Shanghai Daily (reprinted below) are reporting that a massive Shanghai Disneyland is set for an early 2012 opening.

YEARS of negotiations between the Shanghai government and Walt Disney Co appear to have clinched a deal for a huge Disneyland to be built in Pudong.

This appears consistent with reports that we first covered back in August 2006 of plans for a park in this region. Of particular note to us HKDL fans is the final statement about plans originally being put on hold so that the Hong Kong park would not suffer. Is this no longer the case? Can HKDL stand on its own two legs? Or are those reports from the HK Economic Times about a 30% expansion of our little park in the next five years to be believed? They better get that Adventureland Construction cracking!
