This Week in Hong Kong Disneyland

Story

This Week in HKDL

EasterIt has now been about six weeks since the last weekly column, and for some of you that just isn't going to compute. That's fine, we can deal with your inability to break from the rules if you can deal with our habit of perpetually breaking them. Suffice it to say that we're back with links, photos, an updated site, a plea for help and bellies bloated with chocolate eggs.

News This Week: New TV Ad | High School Musical LIVE Photos | Site Updates

Ok, so it has possibly been longer than it should have been since the last column (11 February 2008), but we’ve honestly not had much to report for the last couple of weeks. That does sound like a bit of a cop-out, and to a certain extent it is, but we’d just be wasting your time and our own by bringing you superfluous columns and information that is readily available almost anywhere else on the web. However, what we really needed was a break from the site. My competing obligations with my work, as well as my other website DVD Bits, often mean that I can’t always be here to contribute to this site. With my pending nuptials and holiday, there may be another gap. That’s why I’m going to go out on a limb and ask if there is anybody out there – especially Hong Kong locals – who may be willing to contribute to the site on a regular basis?

If you have regular access to the park as a visitor or Cast Member or if you’d just like to start helping us post news and photos, we’d really like to hear from you. We don’t pretend to know what you want, but we offer love. Really, if you are on the ground, and you'd like to contribute, we want to know you!

New TV Ad for HKDL's Summer

Our sometime-Spy and good friend Bennett has posted a video from TVC on YouTube. The "See You at Hong Kong Disneyland 2008" advertisement highlights the new and coming attractions at the park. Probably the most interesting things from a fan point of view is the news that Mickey's WaterWorks will be returning for another year, as well as giving us a sneak preview of some of the new characters inside it's a small world. Thanks for Bennett for posting this on YouTube for everyone to enjoy.

High School Musical LIVE! Photos

From the better-late-than-never category, here are some photos from our Spring 2008 Attractions Gallery. Taken by our Chief Spy on 6 March 2008, they join about 80 other photos in the same folder. Here is a sample of the high-energy and baffling Hong Kong version of the strangely popular US hit franchise:

Site Updates

You may have noticed that we have a newish look to the site lately, and that includes a brand new Google Custom Search available in the top right hand corner of the site. This is a far more powerful way of searching our site and finding that story you seem to remember reading about a while back, but can't quite put your finger on which one it was and now you have the overwhelming urge to lick a puppy and you aren't quite sure why. Go on, give the search a go and I think you'll be pleased with the results. If you aren't, then we just don't like you anymore.

Standard Sign Out Section

We're just getting warmed up! With our membership sign-up section fixed, there is no stopping the onslaught of the Member Zone; the fabled competition and anything else we've written down on the back of a coaster over the last few years. 2008 is going to be huge.

Remember, as always, if you have any news, photos, trip reports or just a question, feel free to contact us.  We like to think of ourselves as the people's site.

Current and Forthcoming Closures, Refurbishments and Construction

  • Festival of the Lion King (Theatre in the Wild) (SUSPENDED): Will be suspened from April 6 to April 11 in order to perform routine maintenance.
  • Fantasyland: No closures in Fantasyland, but there is constant construction going on ‘beyond the berm’ for the forthcoming it’s a small world attraction (Coming April 2008).
  • Land appears to be cleared and built upon behind Adventureland and the Promenade for as-yet-undisclosed project. While some contend that this land has always been in this state, we have reports that some construction was seen to be going on in this area. Others still say that this is prep-work for a Downtown Disney style area and the Pirates extension to Adventureland. The HK Building Department reports this as a 'Dangerous Goods Storage Area'. We now have an indication that a hotel will be going up in the area. Time will tell.
