News This Week: MICE is Nice | Twins in the Park

Oh it's so horrible! It never ends! Week in, week out, this column just keeps on coming. Make it stop! See how great it is when the audience and the writer are in complete sync? The Year of the Mouse draws ever closer, and there is sure to be heaps of photography and videos over the next few weeks. However, we're taking it easy this week and serving you up with a press release and behind the scenes of the Twins' latest HKDL-related music video.

MICE is Nice

Returning to a theme we touched on way back when the site first started, the Meeting, Incentive, Conventions and Events potential of Hong Kong Disneyland is explored with HKDL's new "It's Time to Team" theme. Here's what the official House of Mouse had to say about it:

HONG KONG (January 18, 2008) In celebration of the all-new Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) proposition “It's Time To Team”, Hong Kong Disneyland hosted an interactive event today for industry leaders and guests to gain a deeper understanding of its unique MICE concept.

Held at the luxurious Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel in the opulent surroundings of the Cinderella Ballroom and Convention Center, guests had the opportunity to meet with Hong Kong Disneyland MICE professionals and actively participate in the unique programs that support Hong Kong Disneyland’s “It’s Time to Team" proposition.

“During the past two years, event organizers have been impressed with their MICE experiences at Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Josh D’Amaro, Vice President, Sales and Travel Trade Marketing, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

“Hong Kong Disneyland owns a unique position in the Asian MICE segment. The combination of our beautiful, spacious properties coupled with our long history of delivering high quality, innovative content makes Hong Kong Disneyland an obvious choice for MICE events in Hong Kong. Our company has a long history of leading the way through innovation, creativity, and a keen focus on our guests – the “It’s Time to Team” platform continues this tradition.”

“Hong Kong Disneyland is very confident in the future of its MICE business. Our MICE business has demonstrated strong growth during our first two years of operation. We foresee great potential for further development in this area and we are positive that Hong Kong Disneyland will continue to be an industry leader, setting the trends for years to come.”

As one of the newest and most comprehensive destinations to host MICE events in Asia, the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has collaborated with large multi-national and large-scale corporations, including KPMG, Baker and McKenzie,

PricewaterhouseCooper, Charle Group and most recently L’Oréal. These events ranged from business meetings to team building activities held at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel or at the theme Park itself; event organizers could also consider the entire Park or a specific themed land buyout to suit individual needs.

“There are endless possibilities to the MICE magic at Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Peter Lowe, Vice President, Hotel, Sports and Recreation Operations.

“We offer a unique MICE experience that provides clients with the most comprehensive advice and solutions. As an integrated team, Hong Kong Disneyland MICE professionals maintain close ties with clients to create a productive environment which combines business and entertainment together flawlessly. No detail is overlooked. L’Oréal is an excellent example of the ‘It’s Time to Team’ concept that has put Hong Kong Disneyland at the top of the list as a MICE venue.”

L’Oréal, a renowned international cosmetics brand, recently held a five day, four night incentive and training event at Hong Kong Disneyland for 600 of its staff members from Australia, India, Korea and Indonesia.

Taking the lead, Hong Kong Disneyland MICE professionals worked closely with L’Oréal event organizers to synergize the event and coordinate all manner of logistics for this diverse group of delegates; from food and beverage and team building exercises to religious needs, such as an in-room Koran for Muslim guests.

Providing tailored and creative solutions, the L’Oréal training and entertainment programs ranged from Tai Chi exercise for the 600 delegates to an awards ceremony specially arranged in the Theater in the Wild. Through the guidance of Hong Kong Disneyland MICE professionals, L’Oréal experienced the ease and efficiency of working with Hong Kong Disneyland as one team.

Over 200 MICE industry professionals attended a gala party at Hong Kong Disneyland today to mark the magical launch of our new MICE proposition “It’s Time to Team”. The guests were split into 18 teams to experience team building activities around the picturesque grounds of the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. With the members of our MICE team acting as team leaders to guide the process, the groups participated in team-based activities that are unique and available only at Hong Kong Disneyland.

The evening continued with a fabulous dinner in the Cinderella Ballroom and performances by some of Hong Kong Disneyland’s world class entertainers. Of course, the grand finale of the night had Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse wishing goodnight to party goers!

Twins in HKDL

Asian pop sensations Twins, who had previously laid down a crazy dance version of the Mickey Mouse Club Theme for the Hong Kong Disneyland: The Grand Opening Celebration Album, have donned their Mickey Ears again to help promote the Year of the Rat Mouse in HKDL. According to Batgwa.com : "The ladies were also treated to some beautiful Vivienne Tam outfits as they performed with Mickey, Minnie and their friends.

Charlene said that she was very honoured to film a music video with a world class performer like Mickey Mouse and revealed that she had been a big fan of his ever since she was very young.

During filming for the new year song "Stylish Mouse Sees Off The Pig", Twins were extremely active and excited in front of and behind the camera as they made the most of their time to play with the characters, preparing their "mouse" related greetings for the new year.

Mickey was so impressed with their performance, that he has invited Twins back to perform at the forthcoming press event, where they will be able to see the visiting exhibition of Mickey's Mansion and watch a show performed by Mickey and his friends".

We'll be looking forward to seeing more of these two young ladies as the season progresses.

Current and Forthcoming Closures, Refurbishments and Construction

  • Taihitian Terrace (CLOSED): On Tuesday through Thursdays until further notice
  • Fantasyland: No closures in Fantasyland, but there is constant construction going on ‘beyond the berm’ for the forthcoming it’s a small world attraction (Coming April 2008).
  • Land appears to be cleared and built upon behind Adventureland and the Promenade for as-yet-undisclosed project. While some contend that this land has always been in this state, we have reports that some construction was seen to be going on in this area. Others still say that this is prep-work for a Downtown Disney style area and the Pirates extension to Adventureland. The HK Building Department reports this as a 'Dangerous Goods Storage Area'. We now have an indication that a hotel will be going up in the area. Time will tell.
