Our ever-lovin' Chief Spy is back with an exclusive report and almost 40 photos from her trip to Hong Kong Disneyland's latest Halloween display. Join us as we re-trace her steps through the spooky screamscape of scares.
It wouldn't be a seasonal event without a trip report from our favourite spy, the Chief Spy. Noticing a major focus on the Nightmare Before Christmas at this year's events, our Chief Spy weaves a tale that will both terrify and delight. Or something like that anyway. Without any further ado...
We took advantage of the bring a friend campaign and took our helper last week. I just love watching people go to Disney for the first time. She was just like my husband, all eyes and teeth. She loved the Lion King and the Golden Mickeys. Unfortunately on the day we went, they were very busy. No problem, she and the little one went back alone the next night. (same special offer). What did they do? Go to Lion King.
We have the Premium Annual Passes, so we got the birthday pack from Disney. Both of us are in September, so we had 24 Fastpasses, 8 tickets to Lion King/Golden Mickey's, and 8 fireworks passes. On the night we brought our helper, my husband met us at the park, and we used the Fireworks pass. They have a blocked off area by the train station for viewing. Excellent show. It is a totally different perspective. The little one and I went today. Not too crowded. It's the first time I've been angry with the staff though. We waited in line to go to the Haunted Hotel, and when we got to the door, with all good intentions I'm sure, the girl told my little one it was too scary and she could wait outside. I cold have killed her. I just spent 20 minutes plus explaining that haunted houses were not real, and just fun. Big girls can go in them. So much for my persuasion techniques. We got out of line, and headed down Main Street for a few photos. There are lots of Halloween decorations up everywhere.
Used a few of those Fastpasses on Pooh and Buzz. Rode on the Autopia. I had to laugh, after we got in the car, we were very severely warned to "keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times" . [See "Autopia Closes After Car Derails" - Ed] Over to Fantasyland for another Pooh. I asked the little one how Beast disappears during the Golden Mickeys and was told "it is pure Disney magic". The train closes at 5pm on weekdays, so we went to ride the Jungle River Cruise. Caught the lion king show at 6. It broke down in the beginning scene, took a minute to fix and on with the show. The bird woman was dancing today, and not flying but nice all the same...
...And Now for the main event. 7:00 for the "Glow in the Park Parade" Fantastic! It started about 15 minutes late (I was told it was a minor technical difficulty), but well worth the wait. Jack is amazing. He even speaks Cantonese! The bungee dancing fire dancers float was awesome! The end float is the same as last year, but the rest are all new. While waiting for the parade to start, all the black lights are on. Everything glows. Unfortunately, with the flash on my camera, the pictures don't do it justice. I'm going to try again tomorrow night without the flash. I also found out my dentalwork glows! We are heading back over tomorrow night to use the last of the fireworks tickets, show Daddy the parade, and hopefully get into the Haunted Hotel. I've bought my helper an Annual Pass, so she can watch the child while I go in and take pictures.
Mickey and Minnie this year are in pirate costumes on everything in the park, but I didn't see them for photos. The villains are hiding in Adventure land this year instead of on Main Street.
The Chief Spy concludes her report by declaring: "Grape popcorn is back!" Need we say any more?
The above photos are just a sample of almost forty pictures our Chief Spy has sent us so far! To see the complete set, along with another forty we've already posted, visit our Halloween 2007 Gallery.

The Halloween coverage will continue all month, even if you tire of it and cry out for Christmas! Speaking of Christmas, we already have a bit of news in that regard, but we'll be saving it up for Monday's "This Week in Hong Kong Disneyland" column. So stay tuned folks. The HKDL Source is the only place on the Interweb where you will get official, unofficial, fan reports and all sorts of random nonsense about Hong Kong Disneyland all in the one place. So don't you go changing!
