Disney got involved with the Hong Kong Public Libraries for the Disney Reading Together programme. It seems to involve lots of yellow t-shirts.
Disney's VoluntEars got out and about in the Hong Kong community this week as part of the Disney Reading Together programme.
Organized by the Hong Kong Public Libraries - and held at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library on 31 July 2007 and again in English yesterday (7 August 2007) - the events saw the VoluntEars tell stories and play games with the gathered participants.
One of the stories told was that of "Hua Mu Lan", better known to the English-speaking world as Mulan, star of the 1998 Disney animated classic of the same name. Representatives spoke of the joy of sharing the traditional Chinese tale with others, and the ease and positive energy children studying in Egllish will get from participating in the story.
Children were able to make swords out of environmentally friendly material available at the venue, teaching them another important lesson. The event was also designed to heighten the children's sense of community.
This is the second year in a row that the Hong Kong Public Libraries have managed to stage the events.
Disney has kindly provided photos of the events, a sample of which can be seen below. Don't forget to visit the Gallery section to see more photos just like these.
