Story

Park Update

PiratesWe noticed them creeping into Adventureland for the the last few days, but Disney just announced that the pirates have officially taken over a small section of the park. Even Cap'n Jack was spotted to kick off the parlay period.

PRESS RELEASE: Hong Kong Disneyland’s Adventureland transformed into Pirateland today as pirates temporarily lay claim to it with a host of fun, innovative and entertaining experiences for guests of all ages. The pirate antics were a sneak preview of the Pirate Takeover, which officially opens to the public tomorrow, May 4, and runs until June 30, 2007. The Pirate Takeover experience is included as part of regular admission to Hong Kong Disneyland.

During a vibrant launch event held in the new-yet-temporary “Pirateland”, Hong Kong Disneyland welcomed two lucky guests as “Honorary Guests” of the day to march side-by-side with the unruly pirates in a special ceremony.

“We are thrilled to be part of this officiating ceremony of Pirate Takeover and we look forward to an exciting excursion in Pirateland. We are proud to be part of this pirate crew and we find no other experience as unique and authentic as what we see here at Hong Kong Disneyland,” said Mr Leung and Ms Chan, the two “Honorary Guests” of the day.

“The Pirate Takeover marks the first time ever that Hong Kong Disneyland has created such a large-scale themed land overlay in the Park. We trust that our guests will be as excited as we are to experience this completely new, first-of-its-kind entertainment experience,” said Jill Estorino, Senior Vice-President, Marketing of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

The pirates arrived at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on their junk less than a month ago after sailing through Victoria Harbor. Upon their arrival, they announced their plans for an array of exciting activities, shows and tantalizing food for guests to enjoy both during the week and on weekends at their temporary headquarters, the now-called Pirateland.

Guests will first encounter Disney’s Pirate Takeover at the entrance to Pirateland where pirates have refashioned the towering Adventureland archway with unmistakable pirate paraphernalia. Guests can also take part in unique interactive and immersive pirate adventures that are full of fun, mischief and revelry.

Bold guests can test their mettle in Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Boot Camp or for the faint of heart, have Mirabella, The Gypsy Fortune Teller predict the future for those fearing the unforeseeable. Rowdy music loving sea dogs can make sweet music with washboards and spoons in Pirates Procession or learn to “Wake the Dead” in “The Doctors of Soul” VooDoo Drum Show.

The brave can sail through the Jungle River Cruise, Pirate Takeover! day and night and be rewarded with a glimpse of Tarzan’s Tree House, now pirate central that is flying the skull and crossbones. Guests will hop on board the ride at their own risk and may meet the most unexpected guests!

Pirates love their games and guests can take part in their rowdy shenanigans in midway games such as Rum Tumble or Captain Hook’s Ring Toss as well as Treasure Hunt, a Pirateland-wide adventure where guests can test their skills and crack the code to pirate secrets and be rewarded with fancy treasures!

Captain Hook and his partner in crime, the giant crocodile “Tic Toc” as well as Pirate Mickey, Goofy and Pluto will be available for the all important photos. Special themed photo corners are also available throughout Pirateland.

In celebration of the official release of the third movie in Disney's blockbuster trilogy, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” opening in Hong Kong theaters on May 24, 2007, selected movie props similar to those being used in the film will be displayed in Professor Porter’s Trading Post. Just outside, for a few coppers, will be a face painting service for guests who wish to join the pirate crew.

Over the weekend, and once after dark, guests will be able to experience even more pirate fun and be thrilled by the Fire Knife Performance and the Pirate Limbo Jive exclusive to Pirate Takeover Weekend Excitement.
