Rumours of a Pirates of the Caribbean event in May this year have been all over the 'Net this week, so we decided to contact Disney and find out what exactly was going on. Now, thanks to Disney Publicity, HKDL Source has this EXCLUSIVE statement from the Publicity Director of Hong Kong Disneyland about the pirates themed events and Adventureland Pirates overlay!

“There’s always something new and exciting at Hong Kong Disneyland. There are many guests who visit our Park multiple times during the year because they find the experience immersive and engaging and that there is always something new.

The Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End movie will be launched in Hong Kong in May. In celebration of the movie launch in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland will be doing a number of promotions and we are planning to give Adventureland a Pirates overlay.

We do not have exact dates of the event yet but is looking at a May and June timeframe. The current plan is to have the event available for a limited period of time but we will certainly stay close to the market and listen to guests’ feedback.

I do not have details of the event yet as we are still in preparation stage, but I can confirm that this is an important event for us and we will be bringing to guests a total entertainment experience. We will be reviewing everything from décor, music, streetmosphere, characters meet and greet, merchandise, food and beverage as well as creating interactive and surprising elements for guests and getting them involved and engaged. There will be suitable pirates’ related elements at our hotel as well.

I am excited that we are bringing a Pirates themed event to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and will be happy to share details as they become available.

We are confident that young adults will find the event engaging and exciting while families with kids will find it new and fun.”

Whether this is a precursor to the Pirates Themed Land that was rumoured to be forthcoming in an extended Adventureland, or simply a one off event, is something we don't know yet. While time will tell on the latter, this is an exciting development and is sure to please Hong Kong Disneyland fans looking for the next big event. Stay tuned!
